Healthy Water Education

Fifth grade students measure the temperature of water.

Working with County Schools FOSC and Patagonia Lake State Park staff developed curriculum that instructs students in water quality sampling techniques.

Using real science equipment in the classroom and in the field students sample water for the following indicators; temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH and the presence of Aquatic Vertebrates.

While learning the importance of team building and collaboration the science informs the students that water quality impacts plant and animal life in the watershed, the importance of riparian habitat and the need for protection.
